Skibbereen is a very central location for exploring the fantastic unspoilt scenery of the Southwest Atlantic coastline of Ireland. West Cork is located in the South West corner of Ireland. It stretches from Kinsale to the Beara peninsula and boasts some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery. Due to its coastal location West Cork is a haven for all types of water–based activities. Skibbereen is less than a fifteen minute drive to Baltimore where you have sailing, diving, sea-angling and windsurfing, there are ferry services to the nearby Islands of Cape Clear and Sherkin .The spectacular setting of Glandore with its famous Drombeg Stone Circle and the fishing village of Union Hall which has kayaking, sea-angling and whale and dolphin excursions are only a ten minute drive. Rosscarbery and Clonakilty are further on and here you can trace the footsteps of General Michael Collins and visit the beautiful sandy beeches of Inchydoney. There are many safe and sandy beeches in West Cork. There is Salmon and trout fishing in the Ilen River, which flows through the town of Skibbereen.
